What is Service of Process?
Service of Process is when legal documents such as summons, complaints, subpoenas, writs and other court documents are delivered to the individual to whom the legal document is directed. Service of Process must be served by an individual who is not a party to the case.
How does a Process Server serve papers?
A legal process server delivers & serves legal documents to a defendant or an individual involved in a court case. The process server must serve the documents in accordance with the legislation in the area of service. This may mean handing the documents to the defendant personally or sub-serving to someone in the same household or business. Once the documents are delivered, the process serving agent must provide proof that the papers were served. This is done through a document call an Affidavit, Declaration or Proof of Service. After the documents have been served the process server then creates and returns the proof of service to the party who requested service for filing with the court.
Do You offer other services than just Process Serving?
ECP Process servers will also file your papers with the courts, perform document retrieval and investigation work like skip traces, people locates, surveillance and postal traces.
Do I need a Process Server?
If you have something to serve or post then the answer is "YES" Hiring a Legal Process Server is an important step in proceeding with a court case. A process server is someone who is experienced in serving legal documents efficiently. More importantly, professional process servers are knowledgeable of the legislation surrounding service of process in Washington. There are several requirements and constraints associated with serving legal documents and if the service is not performed in accordance with the law,
this can hinder your case from going forward or result in the dismissal of your case.
How much does it cost to get papers served?
The cost of a routine, expedited and rush service is determined by how soon the paper needs to be served and how far we have to travel in order to serve the paper. Routine or standard service is the most economical way to have your papers served.
Going to multiple addresses and papers requiring a high number of attempts to serve will also affect the cost of service. Please see our
